In-ground wall washer lights have become a key element in shaping the night-time image and atmosphere of buildings, thanks to their concealed installation and precise light control. They can outline structures and create light and shadow effects without disrupting the architectural integrity. Below, three case studies illustrate their specific applications.
01. Guanyin dharmadhatu
The Guanyin Shrine, standing 91.9 meters tall, is the core structure of the Guanyin dharmadhatu—a cultural landmark integrating religion, art, and tourism.
To create a solemn and sacred night-time ambiance while preserving the building’s visual unity during the day, the project adopted a customized solution. For the facade lighting, specially tailored Shone LED in-ground wall washers were selected. The fixtures feature granite and yellow granite textures, blending seamlessly with the carved stone facade and marble paving to ensure aesthetic consistency in daylight. With color temperatures of 3000K and 4000K, the lights wash the facade precisely, enhancing a dignified and sacred religious atmosphere.
The same lighting concept extends to the Shancai Building and Longnü Building flanking the shrine, where matching stone-textured in-ground wall washers were applied. This ensures a harmonious lighting effect across the main structure and its two subsidiary buildings, reinforcing the overall sense of sacredness.
02. Mango TV experience area
Located at Malanshan Square in front of Hunan Broadcasting Studio, the Mango TV experience area adopts a sunken two-story structure covering over 10,000 square meters. Its exterior features the brand’s signature orange, conveying a youthful and dynamic identity.
The lighting design required careful balance between indoor and outdoor environments to avoid interference. A highlight is the stair handrail lighting in the sunken plaza: for curved handrails, Shone in-ground wall washers (42x65x1000mm) were used to outline the contours precisely; for grille handrails, Shone linear profile lights (30x26x1000mm) were discreetly installed inside for a clean linear effect. This approach ensures safe guidance while emphasizing the architectural aesthetics.
03. Tuanbo Photosynthetic Valley Spa Hotel
Overlooking wetland scenery, this large hot spring resort hotel spans 50,000 square meters, offering guests a tranquil retreat from the urban bustle.
To accentuate the hotel’s elegant character and create a serene atmosphere, Shone in-ground wall washers were selected for the facade. By strictly controlling the color temperature, beam angle, and uniformity of the fixtures, the lights softly wash the building exterior, successfully shaping a calm and relaxing holiday lighting environment that harmonizes with the surrounding natural landscape.
