Commercial Complex Lighting Solutions：Linear Lights (Part 2)

A commercial facade serves as the first point of contact to attract consumers and a visual representation of brand identity. With the rise of the nighttime economy, exceptional architectural lighting has become a crucial asset for commercial complexes to draw crowds and shape a distinctive character. This article highlights four case studies where Shone linear lights and wall washers were used to create highly recognizable commercial facades with striking light and shadow effects.

03 Baiyun Lake Kingbuy Plaza

Situated at the eastern gateway of the Baiyun Lake Digital Tech Town, Baiyun Lake Kingbuy Plaza is a joint venture between Kingbuy Commercial and Guangzhou City Renewal under Pearl River Industrial Group. It is a model project for the redevelopment of village industrial parks. With a total area of 133,000 sqm, it is the first commercial complex in the area exceeding 100,000 sqm.

 

The architectural design draws inspiration from the natural landscape, translating the shimmering waves and shoreline of Baiyun Lake into modern spatial language. The facade incorporates traditional Lingnan elements such as dragon dance and lantern motifs, using corrugated aluminum panels and color-blocked aluminum strips to create a cohesive appearance. This design combines commercial value with cultural identity, setting a new benchmark for urban renewal in Guangzhou.

 

The lighting design echoes these architectural features. Through carefully configured Shone linear lights and wall washers, the illumination delicately highlights the forms and textures of different building volumes. At night, the facade glows with a captivating radiance, enhancing its artistic expression and offering consumers an immersive shopping experience.
 

04 Songshan Lake Mixc
Nestled in the core of Songshan Lake's northern CBD, MixC Songshan Lake is Dongguan's first mixed-use commercial development integrating "Mall + Park + Block". It aims to create an eco-friendly urban public space.

 

HAD's lighting design team employed a concept of flowing, nature-inspired light that harmonizes with the surroundings. Through a holistic approach of "contrasting illusion and reality", the design seamlessly blends functional lighting with artistic expression. The result is a nightscape that is poetic, spatially coherent, and logically structured—enhancing both the commercial experience and the long-term value of the development.

Along the mall's aluminum-panel facade, Shone wall washers are strategically positioned to cast precise illumination. The resulting play of light and shadow adds a layer of visual romance to the metallic surface, creating a rich yet orderly lighting environment. This approach boosts visual appeal across different commercial settings and enriches the consumer experience, making the overall atmosphere both engaging and inclusive.
