This method preserves the historical texture while adding new energy and a distinct identity. Below, we explore its application in two industrial retrofit projects.
Guangyuan Dahua 1939
This transformation of the former Dahua Yarn and Cotton Mill centers on the preservation and adaptive reuse of industrial heritage, creating an integrated dining and cultural destination that serves as a new urban landmark.
At the entrance façade along the main street, Shone LED wall tiles are arranged to form the project logo and the historical year "1939," presenting heritage symbolism through innovative means. Equipped with a built-in DMX control system, the tiles enable dynamic lighting effects that evoke industrial memory. The interplay of light and red-brick architecture redefines the site's nighttime presence, establishing it as a recognizable urban node and a popular destination for visitors in Guangyuan.
Jiangxi 516 Creative Design Park
This project transformed a former factory into a creative park. At the entrance, custom-sized and shaped luminous floor and wall tiles—including right-trapezoid forms and colors such as sky blue, mint green, and carmine red—create a distinctive visual identity, infusing the old industrial site with a contemporary and stylish appeal.
The tiles are controlled via a DMX512 system, ensuring energy efficiency and ease of management while enabling dynamic spatial atmospheres. This approach supports the factory's "rebirth" as a uniquely styled, innovative creative park.
Shanghai Old Dock Creative Park
Originally a disused factory, the site has been redeveloped into the Shanghai Old Dock Creative Park—an internationally recognized block-style commercial and cultural complex where historic and modern elements converge. At the entrance and plaza areas, 100x100mm SHONE LED floor tiles are arranged in a scattered layout, adding subtle visual texture and enhancing the space's aesthetic appeal and social atmosphere.
Yangtze River Delta Roadshow Center
The Yangtze River Delta Roadshow Center is a revitalization project on the site of the former Shanghai No. 7 Silk Printing Factory, a disused industrial facility. The main campus comprises 12 renovated factory buildings. Building No. 8 retains its original red brick facade, integrated with Shone LED wall tiles set into the window frames. Customized with a ripple-like surface texture, the white luminous finish creates a visual contrast against the red brick. During the day, the tiles provide a subtle material accent; at night, their soft glow interacts with the solid wall, enhancing the building's nighttime presence.
These tiles function both as building materials and as integral decorative elements. Their customized texture complements the historic fabric of the old factory, respecting its original character while infusing the industrial heritage with new artistic significance through contemporary lighting design.
