Skyscraper Lighting: How Linear Lights Illuminate the City Skyline

This article highlights landmark lighting projects for super high-rise buildings across Changsha, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and more, showcasing the innovative application and lighting effects of Shone linear lights on building facades.

 

As Hunan's tallest building, the 452-meter Changsha IFS is a mixed-use complex featuring retail, offices, and a hotel.

Lighting was seamlessly integrated with the architecture, enhancing its elegant and dynamic form to create a distinct urban icon. Shone supplied over 30,000 units of 24x35x1000mm linear lights, expertly installed to achieve a concealed lighting effect: the north and south facades are fully lined with lights for animation and text display, while the east and west elevations feature spaced layouts for consistency and energy savings.

The linear lights were selected after rigorous testing for their shape, beam angle, and power. Designed with flanged fixation and U-shaped holes, they allowed quick daisy-chain installation, reduced construction costs, and simplified maintenance. A multi-time mode control system (festival, everyday, late-night) enables adjustable lighting levels to balance impact and efficiency.

Located in the city's core Jiefangbei district, the 339-meter Chongqing WFC stands as Western China's tallest tower, combining commercial, office, and observation functions.

The lighting design emphasizes vertical lines, incorporating linear lights concealed within the curtain wall. Controlled via a DMX512 system, the lights display dynamic graphics and text, creating a striking nighttime landmark that highlights the building's grandeur.

Rising over 300 meters in Guangzhou's Pearl River New Town, Leatop Plaza demanded lighting that complemented its striking architectural form.
The linear lights were tailored to blend seamlessly with the building envelope—remaining invisible by day while beautifully illuminating the façade at night. The result is a luminous new icon for Guangzhou's skyline.

This large-scale complex along Shennan Avenue includes multiple high-rises, with the tallest reaching 300 meters. Shone provided 42x60x1000mm linear lights and 35x24x100mm point light sources to unify the architectural group after dark, strengthening its presence in the urban nightscape.

Situated in Hengqin New Area, just 180 meters from Macau, the project comprises three super high-rise towers that form a layered coastal skyline. The towers feature a simple frame structure with window patterns inspired by traditional Chinese lattice screens. Shone linear lights outline these "screen" contours after dark, blending modern lighting with cultural motifs.
